Older Speedtouch modem/routers allow one to tweak the target SNR margin. The following describes my experience on a BE connection using a ST546v6 box running firmware 6.1.0.5
The ADSL sync speed history can be retrieved from the telnet interface using the command:
:systemlog show fac=local5
The common part of the output of the above command is:
output Power Down: 18.5 dBm, Up: 12.0 dBm; line Attenuation Down: 43.0 dB, Up: 26.5 dB; snr Margin Down: VARIES, Up: 6.0 dB)
Summary: the first digit of the modemoption command adjusts the target SNR margin in 1dB steps. 0.5dB steps can be obtained by using 8 as the second digit rather than 0.
